  • Around the same time Sony Pictures was also working on a Everest film, but focused on George Mallory and set in the 1920s. By the time Everest started filming in 2014, Sony's film was called The Summit.
  • Universal Pictures had originally slated the film for a September 18, 2015 release date in the United States and Canada.However, the date was later pushed back to September 25, 2015 in order to build word-of-mouth. The film will be first released in IMAX and premium large-format theaters on September 18, 2015, followed by a wide theatrical release on September 25, 2015.
